Dorie Barton is a filmmaker, actor, and writer dedicated to collaborative storytelling that reverberates with authenticity and heart.
Barton made her directorial debut with the feature film Girl Flu., which premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival and went on to screen at dozens of festivals, receiving multiple honors including the Audience Award for Best Feature at Nashville Film Festival. Her second feature, Welcome to the Show, premiered at Cinequest and won several awards on the festival circuit, including Best of the Fest at the Big Apple Film Festival.
As an actor, Barton has built a deep and expansive career, performing in standout roles that have shaped her creative path. Notably onstage, she originated the role of Edith opposite Charles Busch in his celebrated Die, Mommie, Die!, and received a Best Actor award from the L.A. Drama Critics Circle for her performance as the title role in Lobster Alice. On the silver screen, Barton has appeared in beloved studio features like Down with Love and indie gems such as God Bless America. She has starred in numerous television productions, including NBC’s Martha Stewart biopic as the young Martha, and the acclaimed sitcom Stark Raving Mad, a personal favorite. Barton is also an accomplished voiceover artist with a wide resume of national campaigns and long-form narrations.
Another personal and audience fave, holiday romcom A Christmas to Remember, was written by Barton and her writing partner for the Hallmark Channel. Her longstanding commitment to nurturing emerging talent was seen in her work at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she helmed filmed versions of She Kills Monsters and Spring Awakening, and directed and produced the annual Showcase, guiding young actors through their debuts into the professional world.
Barton works as a script consultant, collaborating with filmmakers at every stage of development. She holds a BFA from California Institute of the Arts and an MFA from VCU, and is a longstanding member of the renowned Evidence Room Theater Company in Los Angeles. Her diverse works reflect Barton’s versatility and deep dedication to every aspect of storytelling, whether in front of the camera, behind the scenes, or mentoring the next generation of artists.
